Sleeping in on the weekends can make you smarter and leaner

If you ever needed an excuse to hit the snooze on a Sunday morning, look no further.
Because a recent study claims to discovered that catching a few extra Zs on the weekend might make you cleverer and slimmer.

Published in the journal, Sleep, the study compared the sleeping habits of 2,156 adults to their BMIs.
And they found that those who didn’t get enough sleep during the week but made up for it at the weekend had a slightly lower BMI than those who kept on burning the candle at both ends.
‘Weekend sleep extension may have biological protective effects in preventing sleep-restriction induced or related obesity,’ said the authors.
It’s not a particularly knew theory because we’ve known for some time that people who are sleep deprived are more likely to eat unhealthily.
A lack of sleep goes hand in hand with fluctuating blood sugar levels and that can leave people grabbing quick high-sugar fixes in order to stay awake…only for them to feel crushingly tired soon after (which is again medicated with unhealthy food).
